Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

I should've asked for help on this a long time ago, but I've been dealing with it...anyways, a couple months ago or so, I had some cheap virus protection pop up, except it wasn't from the internet the way the window looked(I'm not very good with computers). Of course I clicked no to the license agreement and it went away. I went on with whatever it was I was doing, and it came back again about 10 min later. I said no again and my McAfee said it found a trojan and deleted it. Another 10min later my whole explorer.exe interface just disappears. I restart it up again, and it flashes on and off repeatedly until it finally just goes off again. So I work around this for a while using task manager...lol. Eventually, about a week or two later, the explorer interface is working again and I can go about what I was doing, I thought everything was fixed....sadly I was mistaken. I get a blue screen saying "Page_Fault_In_Non_Paged_Area" and warnings about how there was a system error and blah blah to protect computer...and an error code. I have a picture I took with my camera I can type stuff out in a reply if needed. Now my computer has 1500MB of RAM or so, and its running WAY slower than it was before...plus I get that blue screen every 1-3 days, doesn't matter what I'm doing and its really random. That's the basic story, sorry for blabbering, but I could really use some help right about now, because I think if I procrastinate it much longer, the computer might blow on me lol. It's an HP, about 4 years old I think. Tried a lot of stuff, no viruses or anything, scanned with 50 diff programs for em. Cleaned errors out...no fix for this problem yet. I've searched on this topic and saw it could potentially be bad RAM, but I've removed RAM sticks and booted a few times, and same problem, so I really am clueless what is wrong. Please help!!! Thanks a lot in advance.

Here's my logs:

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Hi,

*You have two internet security suites installed there (Comodo & Mcafee)

These suites programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two of them running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

Please remove one of them and keep only one.

*Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running combofix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

That isn't what's causing the problem because I installed comodo after I started having the problem to check on it too. But I'll uninstall it anyways, because I don't use it. And I'll try running combofix, then ill post it afterwards.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Hi,

Did you intentionally install Actual Spy 3.0 keylogger?

Did you completely uninstall comodo? There are still remnants lying around ..

*I see you have P2P software ( LimeWire 4.18.8) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

Please see this topic for more information:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...e-sharing.html

I would strongly recommend that you uninstall this. You can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

Also, I recommend that you uninstall

Ask Toolbar --> http://www.benedelman.org/spyware/ask-toolbars/
Cheat Engine 5.3 --> Cheat engine works by injecting codes into your system processes which could be very dangerous
Registry Mechanic 8.0 --> We do not recommend the use of registry cleaners. Our colleague miekiemoes has an excellent writeup here. Another excellent article by Bill Castner is located here.
Viewpoint Media Player --> Viewpoint related software are considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

*Open notepad.
Copy and paste the text inside the code box below to notepad

  • Save and Name it as "CFScript"
  • Drag and drop CFScript.txt to your copy of combofix.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

**Note**

When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.

*Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 13.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 13".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • For Platform, select "Windows"
  • For language, select your language
  • Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 11
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 7
    • Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u13-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
  • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
  • Next, click on the Delete Files button
  • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
    • Applications and Applets
      Trace and Log Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

*Next, it's important to run this online scan to search for any remnants. It can take some time, so please be patient and allow it to run it's full course:

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.

2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

3. Click Run at the Security prompt. The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database. Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

On your next reply, please include a
  • kaspersky scan log
  • combofix log

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Ok sorry it took so long but I've been busy. Plus the above took quite a while to do especially the kapersky scan...whew.
I'm going to attach the files to this reply. And yes, I intentionally have Actual Spy on my computer as a keylogger.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

*Open notepad.
Copy and paste the text inside the code box below to notepad
Code:
File::
c:\windows\system32\drivers\ituugkxb.sys
Folder::
c:\program files\Viewpoint
c:\documents and settings\HP_Owner\Application Data\Viewpoint
  • Save and Name it as "CFScript"
  • Drag and drop CFScript.txt to your copy of combofix.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

also, let me know how's it running.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Ok, I did the scan and I will attach the log. It's still just as slow as before, doesn't feel any different. I'm no expert, but if I could add a little to my original post and/or provide an opinion of what I think MAY be wrong....I think that there is something wrong with my explorer.exe file as well. Because that's the desktop/flashing screen problem I had, and right clicking on desktop take longer to open than it normally did in the past. I could be wrong though, but if there's a way to find out if it's the explorer.exe file that's causing the problem, I think we should try to find out. But beyond that, I'm uploading the combofix log and continuing what we have been doing. Thanks very much up to this point.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Can you provide me a detailed description on what you mean by "slow." Is it the same before where you get bluscreens? It would really help if you could show me some screenshots of the problem.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Ok. I had taken a picture of the blue screen in the past, and there's what it always gives me. It happens extremely randomly. When it first started happening after my desktop stopped flashing on and off, it would happen every 1-3 days. Now it's even more random and can happen twice in one day, or take a really long time for it to happen again (ex. 3+ days).

Usually after I restart/turn off and turn back on my computer, it will take maybe 15-30 min. or more, but then eventually give an error noise like when something pops up, but nothing pops up - it just makes the noise. The blue screen is still random though.

And what I mean by "slow" is that everything takes longer to load up, I can get random 1 second freezes...if you know what I mean, etc. Right clicking on my desktop to refresh the screen, or view properties etc. takes 10 times longer than it used to. I don't know if it would help at all or not, but back in late december or early january, I got a new graphics card and new 1Gig RAM. Once I put both in and installed and stuff, my computer was really fast, a lot more than before even. But even now with whatever is wrong, its slower than before that. And I wouldn't blame it on the RAM or graphics card because this problem started happening a good month or so after I had those. Plus I have already tried taking out the RAM sticks one at a time and testing, and still same problem so it isn't the RAM as far as I can tell.

Is that descriptive enough lol. Don't really know what else to say about it... maybe that pic I took will help out some?

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Go in here: C:\Windows\Minidump

There should be some .dmp files. The format of the name is MiniMM/DD/YY. Zip and attach the latest 5 dumps please. If you have less than that, attach what you have.

There was only one that I saw. Would that be enough? It was from 07' too, but I'm attaching it.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

A single one from 07 won't be much of a help.

Is the BSOD always that same one? How many RAM sticks do you have there?

Let's test your memory (I understand that you've tried swapping them already)

http://icrontic.com/articles/diagnose_with_memtest86

Let me know the results or problems if there are any.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

I'm looking at the instructions and everything from that link, but I'm extremely confused as to what I need to be doing. I have a black disc I can use, bu the only problem is on Step 1, I don't understand which ones I need to download, or where to put them/what to do with them...

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

What you need to do is download this ISO image: http://www.memtest.org/download/2.11...+-2.11.iso.zip

Make sure you burn it as a ISO Disk Image, do not simply burn it as data inside the CD. After that, stick it in then reboot your computer. If it doesn't load the CD automatically, reboot again and try pressing F12 to boot using your CD.

If that works, just proceed to Step 3 of the article.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

OK, I have the right file and everything but I think I already wasted a CD burning to it. I'm using Nero 9, and it gives me options between Data, Audio, and Video Cds/Dvds to burn. I figured this is considered data, and burned it. But it isnt loading anything up when I boot or anything. Is there a way I can do this with Nero or a different easier to use burning program? Because this isn't really working.

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

I don't use Nero myself but there are screenshots in the article on how to burn the ISO using Nero.

If you are still having troubles, you can download ISO recorder: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/v2.htm

Instructions on how to use here: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/HowTo.htm

Re: Is this a malware/spyware/virus etc. problem?

Ok, sorry for all the questions, but I tried a different option and burned it and got it to work after selecting what to boot with on start up. It took about 40 minutes to test and there was 1 Pass and 0 Errors. So, that means I'm not having memory problems, right?
