Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.
Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Please run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives..._principal.htm
Once it has finished save the activescan log. Then post that log in your next post.

Quote:
IMPORTANT!:

Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2) (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system. At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it’s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Since you have those programs already....make sure each one is updated and has the latest databases and run each and have it clean the PC. Then install SP1 (Service Pack 1) for XP. The log you posted is from a PC that does NOT have this update installed as there is certain files and entrys missing from that log that tell me SP1 is installed.

Once your version of XP is updated and you run all those scans..post another hijackthis log and please explain in detail your problem.

Ok..couple of things..

a. Your log is still showing that Windows XP's Service Pack SP1 has still NOT been installed. You will need to visit the microsoft update page...

Please visit Microsoft's Window's Update Page and install the latest service packs, patch’s and security updates for your system.

**Note** If your version of windows is NOT english...make sure you choose the correct update page. The one I listed is english.

b. No worries about the System Volume Information folder as that will be removed when system restore is disabled and then re-enabled.

c. Just to make sure about SP1...I need you to do the following.....

1. Open Hijackthis
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Open Uninstall Manager
3. Once that loads...click on "Save List"
4. It will save a file called "uninstall_list.txt" to the default folder.
5. Open that file with notepad and copy the contents and paste it here in your next post.

Click...start...control panel..click on the system tab. Once that opens...post the info listed under the System: section on the General tab. SP1 is a 133MB file. Do you remember installing it? It's still not showing..as I see hotfix's only which is NOT the service pack.

Also your using "Express" update and that will list SP2 everytime. If all else fails...install SP2 and we will go from there.
