Just cleaned out AntiSpyCheck--need help w/log

Hi, all. It took me about 7 hours and a few different software packages, but I'm pretty sure I got rid of all vestiges of AntiSpyCheck. I was hoping someone could take a look at the HijackThis to see if there's anything else lurking in the background of my PC.

Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Just cleaned out AntiSpyCheck--need help w/log

By the way, I followed all the steps but cannot upload the ActiveScan from Panda as it is too large (39mb). All of the files it detected were cookies within Netscape, so I simply deleted all cookies. I haven't used Netscape in years (only keep it around for the Composer), so I know I won't be missing anything.

Re: Just cleaned out AntiSpyCheck--need help w/log

Hi brigid_fitch and welcome,

Did you continue through to Step 5? HijackThis alone does not provide enough information.

We prefer a more comprehensive set of logs to assist in detecting any malware that may be present.

As noted in the final step (Step 5) of our sticky topic IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help....

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

What DSS will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
  • DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt in your next reply.
  5. Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simply
  1. Click the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
  2. copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:
    C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt
  3. Click Upload.

Please include the following in your next reply:

main.txt
an attached extra.txt

Thanks Ried--I did run DSS, but evidently only posted the HijackThis log. Extra.txt is now attached. Here is the info from DSS:

Re: Just cleaned out AntiSpyCheck--need help w/log

Thank you.

You still have active infection on the system. Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out these instructions.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

***************************************************

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop. Do not run it yet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
5) Login with your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [OuterinfoUpdate] "C:\Program Files\Outerinfo\OuterinfoUpdate.exe"

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : " Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question " Replace infected file?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot into Normal Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: (C:rapport.txt) or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Next go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web> Now, Uncheck everything and delete everything except 'My Current Home Page'

Also make sure the 'Lock desktop items' box is unticked. Click OK, and then Click Apply, then OK.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe to start the tool.
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter
Answer Yes to the question "Restore Trusted Zone ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

Notes

1. If you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

2. As many of the variants of Smitfraud have begun invading the Hosts file, this tool will reset your Hosts file as a necessary precaution. You will also have to reset any specific modifications you may require such as Hosts MVPS.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

It's important to run this online scan to search for any remnants. It can take some time, so please be patient and allow it to run it's full course:

Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html

Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
  • Click Run at the Security prompt.
  • The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
  • Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Then post the following logs in your next reply...

c:\rapport.txt
Kaspersky results
New Hijackthis log
(dss.exe not needed this round)

Re: Just cleaned out AntiSpyCheck--need help w/log

Hi brigid_fitch,

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. 'Check' the following now orphaned entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B8301AF7-D00E-4EA4-87C1-5FF4644FBBA1} - C:\Program Files\Web Technologies\iebt.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: Internet Service - {85BDD81D-31FD-4A6B-A73C-3955B128D2EC} - C:\Program Files\Web Technologies\iebr.dll (file missing)

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Delete the following file and folder:

Smitfraudfix.exe (on your desktop)
C:\ Deckard

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Clear your Mozilla Cache:
  • Launch Mozilla>Tools>Clear Private Data.
  • Ensure 'Cache' is checked
  • Click 'Clear Private Data Now'

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Please empty your Outlook Express Deleted Items folder. To do so:
  • Open Outlook Express
  • Right click on Deleted Items
  • Select 'Empty Deleted Items folder'.
  • Click 'Yes' at the next popup box to succesfully empty the Deleted Items folder.

You may want to consider using these settings for your Outlook Express, which will automatically empty the deleted items folder upon exit:

Go to Tools > Options
Under the Maintenance Tab, checkmark the following boxes:

* Empty messages from 'Deleted item' folder on exit
* Purge deleted messages when leaving IMAP folders

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Your logs are clean. If there aren't any more problems, please continue with these final instructions and helpful links:

Reset hidden/system files and folders

Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option.
* Select the Hide file extensions for known types option.
* Select the Hide protected operating system files option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Create a new System Restore point
Click Start >> Run - type SYSDM.CPL & press Enter
* Select the System Restore Tab
* Tick on the checkbox - "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
Click Apply
* Then untick the same checkbox & click OK
This will flush out previous restore points (which contain the infections) and create a new restore point.
