HJT help here
I've tried several times (at least 3 different threads) going back to the end of May and I can't get any analyst here to respond! I've bumped my messages, begged and pleaded, even asked an analyst in the Hardware Support section to track one down, and nothing.
Is anyone else having the same experience, or can someone please pass my user ID to an analyst with whom they are working and ask them to look at my theads? Please help! I can't get out of this black hole! Thanks, Jeff |

Re: Is anyone else having a problem getting HJT help here?
Hello Jeff
Apologises for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy lately. If you are still having malware problems, follow instructions below. Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
=============== Or if you already have Deckard System scanner installed, please do this. Click the Windows 'Start' button > Select 'Run' - then copy/paste this into the run box & click OK "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config Click on Extra Log and tick all boxes below that. Click Scan! When finished, it shall produce two logs for you. Post those logs in your next reply. ======= Logs Required C:\Deckard\System Scanner\main.txt C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt<----Attached

Extremely slow performance, browsing, possible viruses, adware, spyware
First, thanks for replying! You guys have always been so great in the past, I was just wondering what had happened. I know that you are volunteers and I appreciate the service you provide.
The main problem that I am having is EXTREMELY slow boot up and performance, as in 5-10 minutes to boot up and just open a browser, then taking several minutes to open additional tabs or windows. After a few browser windows (3 or 4 open), the system "freezes", will not allow any activity, including navigating between open windows. Below is the main.txt log and attached is extra. Please advise next steps. Thanks, Jeff Deckard's System Scanner v20071014.68 Run by System Administrator on 2008-06-26 05:10:25 Computer is in Normal Mode. Re: Is anyone else having a problem getting HJT help here?
Note:
I realize that I have AVG, McAfee, and Norton AV on my computer. Because of the problems I am having, I recently downloaded McAfee and Norton to see if they could find viruses that AVG did not. There were no viruses found with any of the three. I will uninstall them after we are finished. I have limited free downloads from McAfee and Norton (15 day trial), and AVG Free. I was using AVG. Is that the best free AV program to use? Based on what you see in my logs, would purchasing McAfee or Norton help prevent the problems I am having? Thanks, Jeff |

Extremely slow performance, browsing, possible viruses, adware, spyware
Can you also help me get rid of a startup error? On startup, I get a message saying,
"Run DLL error in ...C:/Programs/My Websearch/M3 Plugin.dll" I believe that I can "uncheck" this in startup? Can you please let me know how? Many thanks, Jeff |

Re: Is anyone else having a problem getting HJT help here?
Hello again Jeff
You should really have Only one antivirus and firewall installed, i am not surprised your computer is slow, i would remove Mcafee and Norton, download and run the Norton Removal Tool If you looking for paid virus protection i would recommend Avira who also do a free version, Kaspersky and Eset(NOD32) ========= Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries (If they still exist, make sure you do not miss any) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Plugin] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\M3PLUGIN.DLL,UPF O23 - Service: My Web Search Service (MyWebSearchService) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwssvc.exe (file missing) Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked. ======= Delete the following Folder indicated in Blue C:/Programs Files/MyWebsearch ========= JAVA OUTDATED Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
========= Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here. ========= Log Required Hijackthis Log

Re: Is anyone else having a problem getting HJT help here?
Hey Bruce, sorry about the delay. Here's is the HJT logfile.
Just to clarify, I unistalled both McAfee and Norton, leaving only AVG. When I started to have these performance problems, I did NOT have all 3 of these AV programs installed, only AVG. I know having multiple AVs installed creates resource/performance problems. I only installed the other 2 after having problems to see if they could detect viruses that AVG was not. In any event, I now have only 1 AV program (AVG). Do you recommend Avira (free version) over AVG? My question was if purchasing an AV program provides greater protection than the free ones? If so, is Avira the best AV program to purchase? HJT log follows. As you can see, even though I checked it, HJT did not fix the O23 My Web Search problem. I reran HJT and tried to fix again, still no luck. Please advise next steps. Very slow performance issues
Hi Bruce, logs below. As I said in my last post, I cannot get rid of the O23 MyWebSearch problem. It is also showing up on the Kas scan. Any suggestions on how else to get rid of this?
Also, still having extremely slow response (boot up and oopening browsers). See anything as to why yet?
