Everything gone crazy ( Trojan.win32.mondera.gen )
I have a system monitoring program installed called sspro, and according to it’s log the last website visited on Thursday prior to my problems starting was Myspace.com.
On Friday 6/6/08 when my computer was turned on, Zone Alarm detected a virus called (Trojan.win32.modera.gen) it was located in (c:\windows\system32\khfcasst.dll). Apparently Zone alarm had already automatically tried to quarantine the virus because that option was visible, but not usable. My only available options were to change the name, delete, or ignore it. My computer was completely locked up, and the only option that would work after rebooting several times was ignore. I hit ignore thinking that if it works I’ll get online and find a solution to the Trojan. First thing I tried to download was spybot search and destroy, only to find the setup file was corrupted, and would not work. I also noticed that I was getting pop ups from various websites trying to sell me their anti virus programs as well as pop ups from porno sites. I was finally able to download pctools spydoctor, it located several Trojans, and deleted them. The pop-ups stopped but the Trojan.win32.modera.gen never did show up in the scan, I however noticed that the khfcasst.dll file that it had been linked to was deleted. I have also ran Regcure a bunch of times. The Problems that I still have as of today: · IE 7 Problems: Cannot display the page error, or page loaded but with errors. Sometimes it takes 15 minuets for a page to load if it loads at all. Firefox seems to have the same problem slow loading problem, but I can do a Google search, and the search results come up quick. I tried to go to Microsoft for help, but their websites will hardly load at all. I tried to download IE 7 to reinstall it only to get a corrupt file…. I tried to do the 5 steps here on your site before I posted, but the Panda scan won’t start, and the spy ware blaster that I downloaded said it had a corrupt file and wouldn’t install. It’s almost like something evil lurks on my computer blocking me from going anywhere that I might get help. · Other symptoms: when I bring up the task manager it shows around 40 + processes running. Every few second the CPU usage spikes at 100% this is caused by vsmon.exe. I believe this is a Zone Alarm program, but when I disable Zone Alarm it still runs the same. I also noticed that some of my windows settings had changed, and my tabs on IE are not available even though that option is turned on. I tried to do the 5 steps as the site requires but my system won't allow it, and I don't have another computer available at this time. I was able to download Hijackthis after many attempts, and this is the log that it generated. Thank you Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 5:58:28 PM, on 6/11/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16674) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\avsys\ScanningProcess.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsTray.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe C:\WINDOWS\sprscore.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsAuxs.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Adaptec\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Sony\SONICS~1\SsAAD.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Wcescomm.exe C:\WINDOWS\rundys32.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~4\rapimgr.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Security Task Manager\TaskMan.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Randy\My Documents\HiJackThis.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,First Home Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54843 R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local O2 - BHO: &Yahoo! Re: Everything gone crazy ( Trojan.win32.mondera.gen )
It's been over 72 hours so I thought I would bump this thread and also add some more info. Was finally able to download spybotsd152 , but when I go through the setup and install process it will say resolving www.safer-networking.org then after about a minuet I will get an error saying server name or address could not be resolved. I've tried a half dozen times with same result.
Pandasecurity.com - Page will load but start scan button will not activate scan. Kaspersky.com - will try to start process but gets into some sort of loop, and finally gives a java error. ( I've updated to java version 1.6.0_06 ) combofix - downloaded three times corrupt every time. bitdefender - would not run spyblaster- corrupt file have run Regcure four times in a row, shows same errors every time...... 1 in the file/path reference: zonealarm\updclient.exe,-279 7 empty registry keys all related to microsoft in some way. I have tried use and download all the programs with windows IE7 and firfox with the same results. IE7 always has that little yellow exclamtion symbol in the lower left section saying either done with errors on page or just errors on page. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I`ll need to know if you download any programs via torrent/crack sites, if you have not, please remove either Spyware Doctor with Antivirus or ZoneAlarm Security Suite Antivirus, personally i would keep ZoneAlarm as it also has a firewall. ========= Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. Re: Everything gone crazy ( Trojan.win32.mondera.gen )
As for your question regarding crack/torrent programs I purchased Zone alarm and Spyware doctor off of their web sites and they are both legal. I just purchased spyware doctor about a week ago right after this problem started. I know you said delete one of my antivirus programs, but could I just disable spyware doctor, and run scans from time to time manually without it conflicting with Zone alarm? Here are the 3 files that you requested..... Once again thanks.
