i just downloaded a newer version of firefox, but I can figure out where to turn the IE-tab on. I know it sounds stupid! I', left clicking on all the firefox Icons I can see and it does nothing.

sorry for the delay, but I had to enable internet explorer, and then the only page I could get with it was my internet provider-bigpond. So I'm downloading a newer version of that--aghhh! which is slowing everything down considerably. As soon as it down loads I'll do the scan and post the results

lol--thats for sure--I'm really grateful for all your help! I'm intending to really clean up the system now, and am looking at some of the other forums for things I might do once all the immediate problems have been dealt with, just to make everything run more smoothly. Its an older system, and I know it wont last forever, but I rely on it heavily, so its long overdue to find out how to treat it better.
