Re: PC Critical condition. Couldn't open anti-v program. Couldn't install dss.exe

The infected items reported by Kaspersky are all in the Quarantine folder of Combofix. They should have been gone after uninstalling Combofix as instructed in my post # 17.

Re: PC Critical condition. Couldn't open anti-v program. Couldn't install dss.exe

Hi,

Is this the machine you have previously slaved to another one? There are some registry leftovers from the infection, nothing active though.

===================================

There seems to be some bad blocks on your disk's D partition. This is beyond the scope of this forum. You may like to bring that up with the XP or Hardware forums.
Quote:
The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.
===================================

Quote:
Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protect failed to load.
This is what I found about the autoprotection failure errors for Symantec. Try re-installing Norton and if still doesn't work, better contact Symantec about it:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...07022213574548
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...04041306575548

and these two service files appear to be missing in the DSS log:

c:\program files\symantec antivirus\savrtpel.sys (file missing)
c:\program files\symantec antivirus\savrt.sys (file missing)

==================================

Please delete the present Combofix from your desktop, if you haven't uninstalled it yet, and download a fresh copy from the same link.

Next,
  • Open notepad (Start>All programs>accessories>notepad )
  • Copy the entire contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as CFScript.txt
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop
(It must be notepad, not wordpad, or it won't work):

Code:
KILLALL::

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\tava]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{2b315cc6-da2c-11dc-9aa5-001617ede6c3}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{45c1e2f1-d761-11dc-b4fd-806d6172696f}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{45c1e2f2-d761-11dc-b4fd-806d6172696f}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\kava]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"braviax"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"appinit_dlls"=""
Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Re: PC Critical condition. Couldn't open anti-v program. Couldn't install dss.exe

As far as malware is concerned, you're good to go. Logs are clean. You've added a new program, TVU Networks. With the amount of RAM present, it's going to add more stress to the system.

Also, remember to post this problem at the Hardware forum.
