how do you delete Surfsidekick 2?
sorry. i`m really new to this & i really need some help. about a month ago i downloaded the Google ToolBar to my computer & i had no pop-ups. i was really happy. until one day my mom used my computer to check her email & all of a sudden the pop-ups came back. i was looking at the programs on my computer to find something that i should delete, & i saw SurfSideKick 2. i wasn`t sure if it was a program i should keep or delete .. so i went online & searched under `surfsidekick 2, remove or uninstall` & sure enough, i found many forums telling other people to delete it. & i really need someone`s help.
i went on Hijackthis, & i got my log. if someone could help me out, it`d be really helpful. thanks for your time. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point. You don't seem to have an antivirus program installed. Please download a free one at Grisoft. Install it and make sure to check for updates. Run a full scan!! Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers!! Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: SurfSideKick 2 Run a scan in HijackThis. Your log is now clean, well done! Make sure to re-enable System Restore. To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Section and use the tools provided.
