Malware Crush

My father noticed on his computer the other day a program running in the taskbar, the icon flashing between windows update logo/red circle with ‘x’, and the title of ‘Security Alert!’ Next to this is another icon for a program called ‘Malware Crush’

This Malware Crush program seems legitimate, but I am still very suspicious of it. Firstly nobody initiated it’s install. Secondly, although it appears in the add/remove programs list, and can be uninstalled, it appears to reinstall itself. If you click on the flashing icon in the taskbar it launches the browser and opens 20 pages of malwarecrush.com.

I can not find any reference to Malware Crush on the net other than its website advertising the software. There are no reports that I can find that the program it self, is malware.

O/S Windows XP Home SP2
AVG Free
Windows Firewall

Any advice would be welcome on how to rid the computer of this program.

Re: Malware Crush

Hi, that's assuredly a new rogue program...if no one initiates it's install, that makes it malware.

You have another rogue showing in your log...

AlfaCleaner

I'd like a bit more information before proceeding.

Please do this:

Please go to: VirusTotal
  • On the page you'll find a "Browse" button.
  • Next to the browse button you'll see a box to enter text.
  • Please copy/paste the following in BOLD:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wupeng.exe

  • Then click the "Send File " button just below.
  • This will scan the file. Please be patient.
  • Once scanned, copy and paste the results in your next reply.

Also please do this:

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt here.
  5. Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simply
  1. Click the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
  2. copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:
    C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt
  3. Click Upload.

What DSS will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And finally, please do this:

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"
and a text file will appear which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so!

Re: Malware Crush

Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

This will take a couple rounds to eradicate.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any) and click Fix Checked

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Winupdate Engine] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wupeng.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fktipm] c:\windows\system32\fktipm.exe fktipm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MalwareCrush] C:\Program Files\MalwareCrush\MalwareCrush.exe /h
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O21 - SSODL: E404Helper - {68703393-3c37-4811-8b79-ee8f5e6da55c} - e404d.dll (file missing)

Close HijackThis now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Malware Crush

Ignore any prompts to reboot.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Download this file - http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...a/ComboFix.exe

    * IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop

  2. Disconnect from the internet....pull the plug!
  3. Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.
  4. Go to -> Run -> paste in the following single line command & click OK

    "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

  5. Follow the prompts. Type "1" and press Enter to begin the scan.
  6. Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.
  7. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  8. Ensure your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled. A reboot should have done this.
  9. Re-establish an internet connection.
  10. Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Malware Crush

Thanks for your help. This Malware Crush is new. By uploading files, you'll help us help others.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/hijackthis-log-help/205448-malware-crush.html

Folder::
C:\Program Files\MalwareCrush
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ineWc03
C:\Documents and Settings\David\Application Data\AdwareAlert

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
"E404Helper"=-

Collect::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wupeng.exe

DirLook::
C:\Temp
Save this as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you, C:\ComboFix.txt. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture a file to submit for analysis.

Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK. A browser will open. Simply follow the instructions to copy/paste/send the requested file.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan and save a Logfile'. Save the log file and post it here.
