LSPfix?
Hi,
I got a virus recently, that popped up in system tray with warning "system deteced active spyware ..." I managed to get rid of this with Smitfraudfix and AVGanti spyware, but only the superficial elements i think. Shortly after, firefox began to crash, and now connection is unable to resolve IP add... Could someone knowledgable please look at my HJT log; I'm wondering about the 010 entries. Thankyou in advance, C Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 12:37:44, on 26/09/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16512) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\WLKeeper.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\NICCONFIGSVC\NICCONFIGSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\RegSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ZcfgSvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Inventel\Gateway\wlancfg.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Intel\Wireless\Bin\1XConfig.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxsrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb09.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\avgas.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSTE08.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgwb.dat C:\Documents and Settings\Cameron MacLeay\Desktop\it apps\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe O2 - Re: LSPfix?
For anyone who's interested, running Smitfraud again in safe mode I was advised to use Lspfix to delete c:\windows\system32\laf1.dll .Lspfix had been advising to keep it, but once deleted things seem to work better. Here's the resulting log:

Re: LSPfix?
Thanks....those are recent additions by the zlob/smitfraud infectors.
SmitfraudFix Option 2 (cleaning) should always be run in Safe Mode. SmitfraudFix will indeed (at this time) point out that using LSPFix on those items is required. The rest of your log looks clean. You might want to run an online scan or two, to make sure nothing else is present. Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
![]()
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: LSPfix?
That's not as bad as it may seem. Most of those finds are in System Restore points. They are safely locked away for now.
DaemonTools gets flagged because it includes a WhenU adware component. I believe that has an opt-out. I'd like to see two things: C:\rapport.txt And an uninstall list: Create an uninstall list:

Re: LSPfix?
Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10 J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11 J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3 Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03 These are all outdated, and security risks by having them installed still. Unfortunately, Java does not uninstall previous version when you update, nor tell you that you should. Leave Java(TM) 6 Update 2 alone, as it is the most recent. You may need to restart your machine after the uninstalls. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This item is part of the Smitfraud infection. Video ActiveX Enhancement 2.07 Try to uninstall it from Add/Remove programs It may not uninstall. If you're given an option to remove it from the list, take it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- P2P - I see you have P2P software ( Limewire, Azureus ) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It may be contributing to your current situation. This page will give you further information. Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares. References for the risk of these programs are here, here and here. I would strongly recommend that you uninstall them, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Report back on how that all goes.

Re: LSPfix?
Hi, Uninstalled those and managed to remove Video ActiveX Enhancement 2.07 from the list. Things running smoothly it seems now, so many thanks for the time and help. Deleted limewire and will read the links for p2p.

Re: LSPfix?
You're welcome. Your logs appear clean. You should be good to go. We still have a few items to address. Clear & Reset System Restore's Cache
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs if you don't have them already:
