My IE 7 has been hijacked by Spyware Advertisement. The first window that pops up says "infected by Spyware.CyberLog-X After the window is closed IE restarts unremittingly with various ads for spyware. I have downloaded Hijackthis and created a log. What's my next step? markb0007 |

Re: IE Hijacked by Spyware advertisements
The infection likely associated with what you describe does not appear active....but before we proceed, I'd like to gather a bit more information, please...
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop. Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool. Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter" and a text file will appear which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other option until you are directed to do so!

Re: IE Hijacked by Spyware advertisements
Before begining the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding.
It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not (while in Safe Mode) be available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download AVG Anti Spyware Use the link at the bottom of the page under "AVG Anti-Spyware Free for Windows" ![]()
When you have finished updating, EXIT AVG Anti Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next go to Control Panel click Display>Desktop>Customize Desktop>Web> Now, Uncheck Everything and delete if present:
Your normal desktop background may have now changed to MS default. This is expected. You should be able to change it back to your desired setting. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run AVG Anti-Spyware with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed)
Restart in normal mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Double-click smitfraudfix.exe to start the tool. Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter Answer Yes to the question "Restore Trusted Zone ?" by typing Y and hit Enter. Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
![]()
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run DSS once again, and post the log it will produce, main.txt --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then post the following logs in your next reply... C:\rapport.txt (log from the tool) AVG Anti-Spyware log Panda log DSS log (main.txt)

Re: IE Hijacked by Spyware advertisements
What happens when you try to update? Do you get a server failure?
Try again, as sometimes their servers are busy, or offline. (not often, but it does happen.) If that doesn't work, we can use a manual set of updates. Download this file, and run it. It will install the most recent updates to the same folder AVG Anti-Spyware is, which by default would be C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 http://download.ewido.net/avgas-sign...ll-current.exe Then proceed.
