Cool ctfmon??? [moved from security]

Hi;
Hi found the following in the hijackthis log;
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
I have read this could be a trojan or other malware. Is this so and how do I get rid of it. None of my scanning programs nab it. (spy-bot, ad-aware, McAfee, windows defender) but If I try to block it from start up or shut it down as soon as I activate a browser it turns back up in the windows task manager and windows defender allows it to do a registry change. The rest of my hijackthis log is as follows;

Looks safe to me.

Just a MS program.

I haven't checked your HJT log. You'll have to wait for one of the experts to do that.

Re: ctfmon??? [moved from security]

As grumpygit stated....most likely safe. You have MSOffice installed. So do I . I have that entry, along with the same MSOffice entries.

You don't appear to have any malware in this incomplete log. (No header)

I can see that you're using the Beta version of HJT. This is still a Beta tool, and we prefer logs from version 1.99.1

For anyone else reading this thread seeking help in the HijackThis forum.....

Please follow the instructions in this sticky topic, and then post the requested logs.

Re: ctfmon??? [moved from security]

Looks good.

You should uninstall these older versions of Java, as by simply having them still installed on the system, they can be exploited.

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2

Re: ctfmon??? [moved from security]

Yeah, you'd think they would do that, as they know why they are updating.

You seem well protected, and if you have no malware issues, we'll consider this thread resolved and archive it.
