I have the trojan.small virus - can only work in safe mode. :(

Hi There,

I have a computer different that the one I am using to type this obviously... it has the trojan.small virus.. it's so deep that I can only start up in safe mode now. :(

I have AVG, ccleaner, & cleanup installed already.. but not highjack this

what can I do to get it so that it starts up in normal mode so I can download highjack this & combo scan to show my logs..

Any help would be appreciated. :)

start right here at TSF, and read this sticky. maybe this will solve your problem. if not, you may be able to post a hijackthis at that time. let's play it by ear, and see what happens. i will keep an eye on your thread, and i'm sure others will help as well.

It's actually my dad's computer that he buggered up.

I've been through here cleaning my own computer twice and had TONS of help :)

oh, and my dad mentioned that he had an Exploit error pop up as well..

also i would like to suggest that you download and run asquared free anti-virus. i use it as an on-demand scan in safe mode. it specializes in trojans. just off the top of my head i think www.asquared.com will work. not sure though.

I would download it on the other computer if I could. It only starts up in safe mode.

When I start it up in regular mode it starts up normally but doesn't go to the desktop it shows a photo stored on the computer.

Would it be possible to transfer a programme (size 1MB) to your PC? By flash drive or similar?

The wild thing.. when I start up in normal mode and hit ctrl alt delete to bring up the windows task manager it doesn't show anything in the applications and nothing in the Users..

Does anyone have any ideas?

OK - download the following file - it's usually run in normal mode but it will work in Safe Mode.

Please download combofix.exe to your desktop.
Alternate link.

IMPORTANT - You must place combofix on your desktop!!

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, the tool will produce a log for you at c:\combofix.txt. Post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

It doesn't need to install - it's a stand alone file. Just copy it to your desktop and run it.

It might - or might not. But I'm confident it will at least run and produce a log that will give me something to start looking at.

ok I got it to work in normal mode... I let it run for a LONG time.. it started up thankgod.
