Good day, Steve.

You can go ahead and let Spybot 'fix' the SpywareBot entries. It is a rogue program. Just curious--did you install that yourself or did it come bundled with your new PC?

**Note** Windows Defender monitors registry changes. When using tools that will modify the registry (such as Spybot or AdAware) disable Windows Defender so it does not interfere with those changes.

-------------------------------------------------------

Did you download SmitfraudFix or the smitrem tool when you were working with the folks at McAfee? If so, prcview is a part of those tools and a legit process. If you have a Smitfraud tool, delete it as it won't work with Vista anyway.

Thanks for trying BitDefender.

When McAfee expires, the following Anti Virus programs should be compatible with Vista:
  • AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5 (32/64-bit) -- To add a Firewall to that, use in conjunction with ZoneAlarm 7.0
  • BitDefender 10 Internet Security
  • eTrust EZ Antivirus v7.2.0.0 (32 Bit)
  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 (as of 30 Jan)
  • Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 (as of 30 Jan)
  • Norman Virus Control --(but their Firewall is not, nor is their Norman Internet Control)
  • Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista
I can't say which has proven to be the most effective with Vista as Vista simply hasn't been out for public use long enough yet.

You've likely already been reading the Windows Vista Forum. In case you haven't, it's a good read.

Ried - thanks for all your help. You're a star.

I didn't load SpywareBot so it either came with the PC or got in some other way. I'll fix it as instructed.

I did have Smitfraud loaded following advice form the guys at McAfee. I'll delete that as well.

Once again - thanks for your patience and for the advice on the software - I now feel confident to use my machine to make a contribution to the cause! Well worth it!

Take care

Kind Regards

Steve
