Confused Email sites won't open.... all others do!??

Hi there,

Certain websites will no longer open on my PC (Including Hotmail.com). All others are ok. I just keep getting an error message which suggests i either have a connection problem - I don't - or a Firewall issue. I've tried turning off the firewall but it makes no difference.

Does anyone know why this is happening, what i can do, or whether there is anything in the following log to suggest that spyware (or something else) is affecting my Internet Explorer.

Thanks, Barry

Cry Email sites won't open.... all others do!??

Hey,

I'm having problems opening a couple of websites (my hotmail and 1&1 email accounts).

The pages have always worked fine and all other sites are functioning normally.

Does anyone have any idea what could have happened and how i can sort it out??

The error messages and diagnostics suggest Proxy or Firewall issues... but i've tried adding the sites as Proxies and turning off Firewalls - nothing changed.

I've no idea what the following means, but thought someone out there might...

Please help.... desperate to get it sorted!

Thanks

Barry

Confused Hi

Hi there, thanks for replying.

I'm not sure exactly what happened to be honest. I think the problems might have started around the time i installed Emule (downloading software) and particularly upon downloading a Zipped Spanish Course - The file never worked at all....?!

I then started to try and sort it out by checking connections, firewalls, proxies etc... and even uninstalled IE7 to see if the previous version IE6 was ok. It made no difference.

I've deleted Temporary internet files, cookies, restored IE defaults, tried Mozilla Firefox and nothing will allow these two particular sites to work... very strange as all other sites are fine - actually my internet banking site can't get to the secure stage either (just noticed).

It does seem to be a security setting issue - or bug, but i just can't figue it out.

All these site (the affected ones) work fine on other computers.

Would i be best to reinstall IE completely perhaps?

Thanks, and sorry i've not much more detail to give you.

Barry

Try adjusting each setting in Norton/symantec settings
I'm not suggesting to disable the resident part of it. never do that while on the Internet.
Another thing to try is Uninstall it while disconnected after already having downloaded a replacement, AVG, Antivi or avast are all free to home users.
Norton/symantec doesn't clean up after itself well, after uinstalling if you choose to: http://basconotw.mvps.org/SymRem.htm

In internet explorers options > security use the default level button for each zone, while there add those problem address's to the trusted zone.
In internet options > advanced use the restore defaults button.
Internet explorer > help about what does it say for cipher strength ?

Any progress ?

Grin Much better

Hi there,

Thanks for that.

I've uninstalled Norton and the sites are now all available again. I think it might have had something to do with a missing "navapsvc.exe" file which norton looked for when i tried to use it to scan the system for virus'....?

I'm not sure what to install instead of Norton now... ? is there anything that's good enough but is also free/cheap?

Thanks again for your help, i really appreciate it.

Let us know what you choose
An additional occasional free online scan is a great idea to
what antispyware tools do you use ?

Im Glad we could help
Since the problems are solved Im going to close the topic now, this keeps others with similar problems from posting there logs/question here, they should start a new topic.

If you should need to post another log for the same PC let one of us know via a PM (personal message).
