IE going weird <spyware>
Well i got my self into a tight jam this time lemme explain...
I was surfing the net, i was also downloading some stuff, and then all of a sudden when i right click one of the options is >>>free pron gallerys <<<!!! I don't know how this came to be here so i did what i usually do to remove spyware is i scaned my computer with the microsoft beta1 scanner, and the adaware 1.5 scanner. Now when i did the quickscan it didnt show anything but i then did a DEEP scan which found quit a few things which i went ahead and removed and quarentined. So then i open up IE hiping that thing is gone but its still their!! i also find that my address bar is gone which pretty much cuts my legs off and i cant go anywhere except my favorites. Right now im using the Mozilla firefox browser and fortunatly the free pron thing hasnt popped up. I have done all i can but i havent fixed my problem so any help would be appreciated. |

Howdy Cube,
This is, I am afraid, a job for the Security Analysts over in the Security Center. I'll give you some instructions, and I'll move your thread over there, so they'll find it pretty quickly. Good luck to you! Download and install Spybot S&D http://security.kolla.de/. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident and make sure that TeaTimer is checked. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings. Now click on the 'Spybot-S&D' option on the top left to go back to the main screen. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the 'Fix Selected Problems' button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix http://majorgeeks.com/download4392.html and install it over the current Spybot installation. Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button if you agree with it. Click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you) and OK. If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Let it finish the scan and then hit Next and Exit. Please download HijackThis http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it. 1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'. 2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log. 3. Get HijackThis Analyzer http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KRC%...20Analyzer.zip and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in 'y' if you agree. The 'result.txt' file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. You don't need to post the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. Hi, 101...great minds, you know...

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it): C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: Viewpoint AceGain Byteswarm ISTsvc WeatherBug - it's adware. If you didn't install this yourself, uninstall it. If you did install it yourself, you may keep it and ignore any fixes/deletions listed below. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = O2 - BHO: AceGain DLInterceptor - {CA70AF0D-0D07-4b80-9ECE-B0F1BEFC5822} - C:\Program Files\Byteswarm\DLInterceptor.dll (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AceGain LiveUpdate] C:\Program Files\AceGain\LiveUpdate\LiveUpdate.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [=°èZJİUMİlmª»o8ıõgC:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINNT\jsfgna.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [=°èZJİUMİlmª»o8ıõñC:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe] C:\WINNT\jsfgna.exe O8 - Extra context menu item: >>> FREE PORN GALLERIES <<< - javascript:{document.location='http://sexmaxx.com/freegalleries.htm';} O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU) Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ C:\Program Files\Byteswarm\ C:\Program Files\AceGain\ C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\ C:\WINNT\jsfgna.exe C:\Program Files\AWS\ - only if you uninstalled WeatherBug Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Your log is clean. If you disabled System Restore, make sure to enable it now.
To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent and use the tools provided. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go. If you can, use Firefox (it's in the prevention speech) instead of IE.
