I'm sure it got moved since you included a log. There's nothing evident in it to point to your problem.

We'll have one more look, but you probably will have to create a new thread in the Windows XP forum for further assistance.

============

Download StartDreck http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/StartDreck.zip

Unzip to its own folder and start the program:
Press 'Config'
Press 'mark all'

Uncheck the following boxes only:
System/Running Process -> List Modules
System/Drivers -> NT Services
System/Drivers -> NT Kernel- and FS-drivers
Press 'OK'

Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application)

Post the log in this thread.

Angry Please Help

Help!!!!

it is not my documents it is word that I can't open. It 's just that most of "my Documents" are in word

This is what I get

You may be encoutering this message because an anti-virus program is not allowing the file to open. This can be caused by one of two conditions. Either the anti-virus program needs to be updated (due to a compability problem with this application) or there is a virus in the file but the anti-virus program cannot properly remove or process the virus it has found.

In either case, the file you are attempting to open should be treated as infected until you have updated your anti-virus software to the latest updates available from the vendor. All major anti-virus software manufacturers have created updates to address known compatibility problems with Office applications. They also usually provide a virus signature file that is available for download from the Internet and must be updated regularly to properly scan for all known forms of viruses.

If you are experiencing this problem on a computer where a new version of anti-virus software was recently installed from a CD-ROM, it is advised to connect to the Internet and download the latest updates available from the vendor.

If you are experiencing this problem on a computer where the latest version of the software is installed, all signature files are up to date, and the file will not open (but other files do) then it is very likely the file is infected with a virus and the anti-virus program cannot remove the infection.

There is also the possibility the file is corrupt (damaged) and cannot be properly handled by either the anti-virus software or the affected Office application. In this case, it may be necessary to attempt recovery of the file using the related recovery utilities that may be available with the application (not all applications have file recovery or repair capabilities).

For more information about this issue, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 835404.

the files are not infected it is that Norton has quit working

My Norton has decided to disable itself

And when I try to open up items in "MY Documents" I get this

"Norton Antivirus has encountered an internal problem error Please uninstall and reinstall Norton Antivirus"

So I tried to uninstall and I get this.....
"Error 1719 The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if the windows installer is not coredtly installed"

I don't know what to do ?????

My System

I say get rid of Norton and use some other (free) antivirus like Grisoft AVG. If you like Norton, then reinstall it. Uninstall it first, then restart and reinstall.

Have you also tried reinstalling Word?

Download KillBox (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe). Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINNT\polall1r.exe

Go to C:\WINNT\ and double click on wininit.ini to open it. Then delete this line:

C:\WINNT\polall1r.exe

Save the file and close it.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Restart and see if Word documents open now.

I have the same problem with Norton System Works. It is absolutely sure that your files are not infected, neither broken. The same problem occurs even when MS Word is opened indepently without any file opened. I reinstalled MS Word and Norton one by one and I am sure that the "guilty" application is Norton. Now after reinstalling it again I don't have the MS Word problem but as soon as I used the live update feature the same message welcomes me at sartup although is has no effect on the system performance. However it is annoying.

I figured it out

I had the same problem as listed here. I had norton systemworks installed and it stopped allowing me access to all mly office documents. I uninstalled it and still had the same issue. I searched my computer for anything named norton and found that the folders still existed. When I tried to delete the folders it told me that a couple of files were being used.

I could find no processes running on the pc that would obviously be using files in c:\programfiels\norton systemworks\norton antivirus. I tried deleting these files and folders in safe mode and when that did not work I tried it with knoppix but that still did not work.

Feeling very frustrated I went back into windows opened a command line and then shut down every process the computer would allow me to shutdown including explorer. this time when I tried to delete the folder it told me access was denied. So I entered the folder and tried to delete all .dll files since they seemed to be causing the problem. Again I got the access denied error. I then deleted all other files out of the folder starting with .dat, .exe and .ini files. I then restarted my pc and went into windows explorer and was able to delete the folders with no problem.

I am not sure if you need to do the whole shutting down processes and opeing a command line. You may just need to delete all the files you can out of the folder and then restart and delete the folder. Not sure what will work for you but I hope this helps.
