Depends how badly your registry is gummed up.
Have you ever cleaned all the spyware off the machine?
Do you even know what I'm talking about when I say "Clean the spyware off the machine?
Shall I explain to you what spyware is?
Do you sense a theme here?

Yes start with removing spyware. Make sure you use ad-aware se not the old version. Also d/l spybot 1.3. Be sure to do the updates each time you run these programs.
Secondly how many programs do you have booting up at startup. Crap like quicktime, real player, messenger, ext. don't need to load so shut them off.

When all else fails...

I wouild like to make sure that you have the latest version of Hijack This, so I am posting the canned instructions.

Slow booting can be caused by 100 different things, but malware is a common cause.

Post an HJT log in this thread, which I will move to HJT Help, and we'll have a look. If nothing else, we'll tell you what it isn't and move you back here.

Talk to you, soon!

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

You don't seem to have an antivirus program installed. Please download a free one at Grisoft. Install it and make sure to check for updates.

Please re-run your log in Normal Mode, not Safe Mode, and re-post.

Thanks.....

OK then.....just the anti-virus program. There's nothing there to be concerned about.
