Grin Norton Anti Virus help

Hi,
I have done a full system scan with Norton antivirus and it is telling me that I have Spyware.Dotcomtoolbar but it isn't deleting it, it sayd "delete failed" when I follow the instructions to the security response page to look for removal advice, it tells me to...
1.Update the virus definitions.
2.Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as Spyware.Dotcomtoolbar.
3.Delete the value that was added to the registry

My problem is that when I do a full system scan there is no delete option! there is also nowhere on the norton site that can tell me what to do. Once the scan is complete, my only choices are "exclude" or "skip" none of which doens anything other than leave the threat there for it to be detected again next time. The value that it also tells me to remove from my registry is not there when I look. Is this something I should continue to waste time trying to sort out or is it ok to leave it there?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Why not download and give AVG virus scan a try. Sometimes, it finds things and fixes things that Norton does not find.

Here is the Link:

Thank you!

Thanks so much for your reply, I have just installed and run the AVG virus scan.....22 infections found and Deleted!! I am now running a Norton full system scan to see if it still shows anything. I will let you know how I go.
Thanks again,
Lisa.

No luck

My Norton scan has just finished and it is still saying that I have this same "threat". This is the help page it refers me to http://securityresponse.symantec.com...omtoolbar.html
I don't have the knowledge to start messing around deep in my computer, should I just ignore it all and not worry too much about it? nothing else seems to pick it up and it says the risk is "low". I did follow the instructions on the Norton page to "delete the value from the registry" but couldn't find any reference to what it was asking me to remove so I gave up. I am just worried that I am accessing my internet banking and paypal account etc with this thing lurking in the corner. I don't know what else to do, should I take it into the shop and get them to try? any suggestions?
Thanks very much.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.
