Redirect virus.. hacking my security! please help!

ignore my other thread please

i thought i had a normal search engine redirect virus at first.. but i'm afraid it might be more than that.
it also opens tabs and goes to websites at random times. (i use firefox)
upon running HijackThis, i get a message saying there is denied access to the Hosts file. it tells me for Vista to right click and hit run as administrator, which the virus is preventing me from doing. every time i try to run something as an admin or when it does the security check to hit continue for something, my computer freezes up until i hit ctrl+alt+del and it won't go through with it.
it also stops working a lot of the time and won't let me save a log file which is why i had to paste images.
and then it would not let me upload to ANY image site, i had to get a friend to do it.
