I have recently received some kind of virus which I am having trouble fixing. What it has done is it eats away at my control panel, particularly at 'internet options' (it removes the text part, and later the whole icon). It also previously didn't let me open internet explorer (also wouldn't let me right click), but now will let me but will not connect (and i know the internet is working as other programs work). Some other programs also do not seem to work (previously included virus software).

I tried a few things, and since at the start it wouldn't allow me to run anti-virus software (or load any on) i reinstalled (repair option) windows xp. it has now allowed me to use symantic antivirus, which cannot find any risks (yet it doesn't allow me to update to a later version, still stuck on 18/8). I've run spybot which found and fixed a few things but hasn't fixed the problem.

So right now, internet explorer won't load a page, and text is missing from my internet options icon in control panel.
