Blue and white search bar (HJT Log)
I'm trying to step a friend through using HijackThis to clean up her computer. I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing though, so I could use some assistance.
She's getting a blue and white toolbar, which I've heard in the past -- and read on this forum -- is part of Messenger Plus. Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to have that on her computer, at least not any components of it that I immediately recognize. Here's her HJT Log: Quote:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.
Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted. Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep). Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point. Please download Ad-aware SE (http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#adaware) and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/...2cleaner.shtml to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize (http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#adaware) the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds. Download CWShredder (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CWShredder.exe) and click on 'Fix' (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here. Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it): C:\windows\180solutions\saap.exe C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\PIB.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WSup.exe Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist: 180solutions Toolbar WinTools SearchSafe Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any): R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.aodrueovisbbzofaljhtzlzz...A89TYseEp6.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50163 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50163 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsB.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3B202FE2-0295-B2AA-003A-F0583BF7B27C} - C:\DOCUME~1\VICTOR~1\APPLIC~1\OPTION~1\TransTwo.ex e O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7B55BB05-0B4D-44fd-81A6-B136188F5DEB} - C:\WINDOWS\questmod-1.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsB.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8DA5457F-A8AA-4CCF-A842-70E6FD274094} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsT.dll O3 - Toolbar: Locators.com Links Bar - {E720B458-B65A-438C-9FF3-B1DF65D7DB3F} - shdocvw.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: SearchSafe - {51CE7A05-9C90-433b-8BEC-73973997F6F2} - C:\Program Files\SearchSafe\searchsafe.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Search Toolbar - {339BB23F-A864-48C0-A59F-29EA915965EC} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bupqhst] C:\WINDOWS\bupqhst.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jod] C:\WINDOWS\jod.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [saap] c:\windows\180solutions\saap.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [udwfot] C:\WINDOWS\udwfot.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [start nurb locks global] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\knob thunk start nurb\For Logo.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TBPS] C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [KeepError] C:\DOCUME~1\VICTOR~1\APPLIC~1\STOPTI~1\Live Jugs Axis.exe O9 - Extra button: Locators.com Search Bar - {A26ABCF0-1C8F-46e7-A67C-0489DC21B9CC} - (no file) O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Locators.com Search Bar - {A26ABCF0-1C8F-46e7-A67C-0489DC21B9CC} - (no file) O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm O16 - DPF: {87067F04-DE4C-4688-BC3C-4FCF39D609E7} - http://download.websearch.com/Dnl/T_50163/QDow_AS2.cab O18 - Protocol: tpro - {FF76A5DA-6158-4439-99FF-EDC1B3FE100C} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist: C:\windows\180solutions\ C:\Program Files\Toolbar\ C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\ C:\Program Files\SearchSafe\ C:\DOCUME~1\VICTOR~1\APPLIC~1\OPTION~1\ C:\WINDOWS\bupqhst.exe C:\WINDOWS\jod.exe C:\WINDOWS\udwfot.exe C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\knob thunk start nurb\ C:\DOCUME~1\VICTOR~1\APPLIC~1\STOPTI~1\ Reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file so we can make sure it's clean.

Okay, I stepped my friend through your instructions (most of it through the Windows Remote Assistance, which was kinda fun), but the search bar still shows up when she starts IE.
She tried to run Spybot and it kept getting hung up on something called "Hunt Bar". I don't know if that carries any significance, but Spybot said it need her to restart the computer and it would try to fix the problem during bootup. Unfortunately, Hunt Bar kept showing up on the Spybot scan. Ad Aware SE didn't seem to have any problems getting rid of the stuff it found, and CWShredder didn't find anything, so it looks like maybe we're back to square 1. Hopefully a new HijackThis log will help you guys figure out what's still lurking. Quote:
