Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

I am getting the following pop ups from time to time.

Below is the information that is in the pop up.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Messenger Service [This is the title thats on the pop up window]

Message from FROM to TO on 7/20/2008 9:26:13 PM

STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.

Windows has found 55 Critical System Errors.

To fix the errors please do the following:

1. Download Registry Update from: www.nowfixpc.com
2. Install Registry Update
3. Run Registry Update
4. Reboot your computer

FAILURE TO ACT NOW MAY LEAD TO SYSTEM FAILURE!

OK - [This is the OK Button at the bottom of the pop up window]
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I did not press this OK button, I closed this window by clicking on the cross at the right top corner of the pop up window.

I did not do any thing as directed in the Messenger Service Window pop ups.

I keep getting this Messenger service pop ups at random intervels of time. Some times every 5 minutes, and some times every 8 minutes.

I have also attached the pop up window as jpeg file to this message.

As soon as I connect to the internet, even though I dont open Internet Explorer, I see lots of data being downloaded.

Note: Previously there were only 5 svchost.exe process running in my task manager. Now there are 6 svchost.exe process running in my task manager.

Just two weeks ago my computer got infected with malware and I got it removed. This is the link for all the things that we did to remove the malware. Its not even 3 days since, and again my computer got infected with this.
Here is the link to that post
Multiple instance of iexplore.exe, svchost.exe, excess memory usage

Please help me.

Here is the Hijackthis log file

Re: Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

I searched for the files that got created in the C:\windows folders since today and found that a svchost.exe file was created in the C:\windows\system32\drivers\svchost.exe . I tried to delete it, but could not as it was running. So I rebooted my system and after logging in again I went into the C:\windows\system32\drivers folder immidiately and deleted that svchost.exe file before it gets running again. Now I was able to delete that file. But I am not sure if my computer is completely cured or not.

If you need any more latest logs like the DSS logs I will rerun DSS and post them here. I also ran DSS before the deletion of svchost.exe, but this time I just got only one main.txt file (maximized) and I did not get the minimized extra.txt file.

This is the DSS log file that I ran before the deletion of the svchost.exe file from C:\windows\system32\drivers folder

Re: Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

As a security measure, immidiately after logging into the system, I open task manager and keep checking it from time to time. Since yesterday after logging into the system I notice 25 MB increase in Page File usage (PF Usage). Before infection the PF Usage in task manager shows only 170 MB with out any open windows. Now it shows 195 MB with out any open windows.

As I told you in the previous post I manually deleted the svchost.exe file that got created in the C:\windows\system32\drivers folder. But even then the task manager keeps showing PF Usage as 195 MB.

Please check this entry in the DSS log file
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon]
"system"="kdnyk.exe"
I think this is the malware. I dont know how to deal with it.

Below is the latest DSS log file

Re: Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

Today, again that svchost.exe file of 32KB in size got created in C:\windows\system32\drivers .

I was surprised today when my computer automatically dialed the internet connection and got connected to Internet and displayed that Messenger window asking me to download that software to fix the errors. Immidiately I went into C:\windows\system32\drivers and checked for any new files that got created. To my surprise I found this svchost.exe file there. I deleted it.

Why is this svchost.exe file being created in C:\windows\system32\drivers directory randomly. Why is it dialing the internet connection ? Is there any way to delete it so that it does not get created again ?

Re: Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

Hello -

Please delete dss.exe from your system.

Important - Regarding Deckard's System Scanner (DSS.exe)

While it does not appear as though you have the rootkit responsible, as a precautionary measure, we're recommending everyone delete dss and not use it until further notice.

You are using an outdated version of HijackThis. Please uninstall from Add or Remove Programs, and then delete your current version.

Next, download HijackThis to your desktop

Alternate link

This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.

Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Please post a new log with the updated version.. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Re: Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

Two more important points:
First:
When I close Internet Explorer using the cross (X) button on the right top corner of the window or using the Menu - File - Close options, an instance of iexplore.exe still continues to be running in the task manager process window.

When I open Internet explorer again using the desktop shortcut another intsance of iexplore.exe appears in the task manager. The old instance (first instance) continues to be there in the process list of the task manager.

Now, when I close this Internet Explorer window using the cross (X) button on the right top corner of the window, this second instance which got created now in the "task manager process list" gets closed but the first instance of iexplore.exe still remains there until I manually select it and end the process.

Second:
I am not sure if this second point is an issue for me alone or for everyone or a change in googles search design.
I use www.google.com to search on the internet. I have set option in googles preferences to open the google results in the new window when I click on the search results.
Normally when I click on the search links, I will be taken directly to that actual website(Original, trusted, genuine) in the new window.
But from time to time (randomly) from the past one month, when I click on the search links, I am being directed to some other new websites which have some terms included in them from my search key words. I have to click on the back button on the new IE window to get back to the actuall website I wanted. This happens only once for the first google search result click (not necessarily the first google search result link, it happens for the 30 th link also if I click it first).
*(The top (first) links are related to the googles sponsored links. I know that. I am not clicking on any of the sponsored links).
This happens when I am clicking on the actual google search result links.
Is this the work of some spy ware or malware ?

I downloaded new Hijackthis file and also deleted the dss.exe file from my system.

Here is the latest log from the Latest Hijackthis :

Re: Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode if needed. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

As part of installing the Recovery Console, ComboFix will begin to run. Follow the prompts to install the Recovery Console. Your desktop may disappear. This is normal. It will return.

Once the Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.

Re: Popups - Messenger Service : STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

I did exactly as you said.
The four jobs in the Task Scheduler are created by me and not by the malware. You can ignore them.

Here is the report from combofix.exe and the new Hijackthis log
