Roll Eyes [SOLVED] System acting up again

Dear Ried,

My computer is having a hard time doing certain functions, such as starting up. My normal anti-virus scans are not showing anything. I ran a Hijack This report, and I was wondering if you would have a look at it. I won't post it until you've given the okay.

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

Please Note, your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use.
Be assured, any links I give are safe

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you still require help please post a fresh HJT log

Installed Programs

Please could you give me a list of the programs that are installed.
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
You will see a list with the programs installed in your computer.
Click on save list button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into your next post.

Re: System acting up again

Dear Katana,

Thank you for coming to my rescue. My computer is getting worse every day, and I completely depend on it for my work. I thought no one answered because I had posted incorrectly (someone wrote and told me I had, but don't worry about that). Anyway, below is the information you asked me for to start. I'm excited to get help.

Regards,

Sylvia

Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check for any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Re: System acting up again

Things should be starting to get better now, but let's make sure nothing is lurking

Download and Run ComboFix (by sUBs)
Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

Bleeping Computer ComboFix Tutorial

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Kaspersky Online Scanner .
Your Antivirus and/or Antispyware may give a warning during the scan. This is perfectly normal
NOTE:- This scan is best done from IE (Internet Explorer)

NOTE:- Vista users should start IE by Start(Vista Orb) >> Internet Explorer >> Right-Click Run As Admin
Go Here http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/par...avwebscan.html

Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
Allow the ActiveX download if necessary and let the database download.
Once the database has downloaded, click My Computer in the left pane
Now go and put the kettle on !
When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.

**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs.
  • Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Re: System acting up again

Dear Katana,

My computer is working terribly. For example, when I asked for a scan report from Kaspersky, the top of the popup box appeared and the rest of the box never showed up! Finally I was able to click out of that box and try again. The second time I was able to save the report. Then, when I came to your site to post, when I used the vertical scroll bar the page messed up and just gave me repeating lines and other nonsense. When I called up the Windows Task Manager it straightened it out some, but there are a whole lot of images that I am just getting white squares with red x's inside of. However, I have done the three scans you asked for, and here is the first one. Also, I am having trouble posting. First I got a message that I had too many words, then I was told I had too many images (and I didn't have any). I will try again on a new post.

Regards, Sylvia

If you are having trouble posting the logs, then attach them to your post

Re: System acting up again

Thanks Katana,

I have tried over and over to both post the logs or attach them, but the site keeps crashing. I decided to wait a little while because I was wasting too much time. I'll try again now.

Re: System acting up again

There is nothing showing in your logs that would be causing you so much trouble

Please see if you can get a log from this scan

Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus

Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus
http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Disable your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notfication Tray icon near the clock.
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Un-checked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Re-enable your Anvirisus software.
  • A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.

Re: System acting up again

Dear Katana,

Below is the ESET Scan you asked for. The main problem I'm having seems to be with Internet Explorer. Items on the Explorer bar are misplaced, disappearing and reappearing, and on the web page itself items often do not appear until I move my mouse cursor over them. Isn't this weird? Do computers just wear out? I have been using it prob
