Antivirus 2008 Pro - Having Problems Here...

Hey All,

I seem to be infected from the "Antivirus 2008 Pro" bug. I downloaded what I though to be java update, and since I have had some problems. When I open a new browser, I am directed to a new homepage that states
"Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack" and asks me to follow various prompts. Additionally, I continually recieve pop-ups from a page titles "Antivirus 2008 Po" asking me to purchase software to remedy my pc's infection. I am also having random pop-ups previously not seen on my system.

I have tried to follow all the steps mentioned in preparation of posting the log. I hope I am doing all this correctly, and I appologize if I am making any mistakes. I could not run IE-Spyad, andalo could not update XP though I should be current with XP.

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated. Many thanks in advance!!!

Re: Antivirus 2008 Pro - Having Problems Here...

Hi and welcome to TSF.

My name is Iain and I will be helping you clean your system.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

Please read these instructions carefully and then print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the fix. You should not have any open browsers or live internet connections when you are following the procedures below.

Note that the fix may take several posts. Please continue to respond to my instructions until I confirm that your logs are clean. Remember that although your symptoms may vanish, this does NOT mean that your system is clean.

If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes.

Please ensure that you follow the instructions in the order I have them listed.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
You can also access the log by doing the following:

-> Click on the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware icon to launch the program.
-> Click on the Logs tab.
-> Click on the log at the bottom of those listed to highlight it.
-> Click Open.

Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Now we'll use ComboFix. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

**Note: It is important that ComboFix is saved directly to your desktop**

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console. This will help us restore your system in the event of a serious crash. It's very simple to complete and will only take a few moments. A quick guide is detailed below.

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
See here for a guide to disabling AV, Firewall and Anti-malware programmes.

Once you've downloaded the appropriate RC setup package for your system to the desktop, follow these instructions:
  • Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.

  • Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.

  • At the next prompt, click 'Yes' to run the full ComboFix scan.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please post the log C:\ComboFix.txt along with a fresh HijackThis log for further review.

NOTE: Combofix prevents autorun of all CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you - please let me know.
