XP freezes at startup..please help!
Hi everyone :)
Recently I've been battling off the vbs.gaggle.D virus after having it for quite a while and not knowing it. After figuring out how to disable it long enough to download the Symantec Antivirus scan, I was able to clean most of it up, but after a recent reboot, I found that XP freezes a few seconds after the desktop loads. I can only do things in XP after starting in safe mode. Can anyone help me? I've run adaware, spybot, and a handful of other virus and spyware removal tools. Below I've included a copy of my hijackthis log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.2 Scan saved at 12:48:12 AM, on 11/27/2004 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Robs\Desktop\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe R1 - Well...you have a few items that need addressed but are not critical at this point. We need a hijackthis log posted from normal windows as the processes are NOT running in safe mode and we need to see them. I would consider booting to the XP CD and running the recovery console to repair windows.
Also..click start...run and type in sfc /scannow. This will look for corrupt or missing windows files. Lets look deeper and see if I can find anything first.. Download: StartDreck Unzip to its own folder and start the program: Press 'Config' Press 'Mark All' UN-Check the 'NT-Services & NT-Kernel...' boxes only: Press 'Ok' Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application) Post the log in this thread..
