OS: Vista
|
Running Vista, had no problems until today when usb stopped working, I did a copy and paste fix which was all internal so don't think that caused the problem. After the fix I needed to reboot and then got a .dll error of some sort, it said missing run. I selected ok then my taskbar and start menu disappeared. I got a warning about a Trojan.Vundo.B of which Norton advised me to reboot and the virus was supposedly erased. I am unable to open my computer or control panel but I can access programs still. Just nothing to do with the OS. Will I need to reformat or can this be fixed? Also I don't have an installation disk, it came preinstalled. Not sure if you need the make and model of the victim in question but it is an HP Pavilion dv2000. TIA for any help, hope my hijack log made it in
of to bed for me! |

Re: New laptop, highly suspect a virus...
Nevermind, I needed to solve the problem asap as I am going to be away from net access for a week so reinstalled vista from the recovery drive as I don't have many things to transfer over.
You may delete this thread or reply if you think it is possible that the virus could have hit the recovery partition and still be lingering. I had tried the earliest restore point and all the other fix options that are available with vista before taking the reformatting route but nothing worked. I just kept getting more and more .dll errors everytime it restarted. If it happens again I will be sure to come back here as you all seem like a very knowledgable and helpful bunch. Thanks again and I will keep my eyes peeled for a response about the possibility that my recovery drive was infected. Sarah |
