Travis, you seem to be posting an inordinate number of logs from different machines. Why is that?

I know I, for one, have a real problem assisting someone who is making money repairing customer PC's from our free advice.

Well I asked if there was somewhere I could learn how to read these logs but none wanted to help me. I was told not to do it myself, and they are friend’s machines and the most I make off of them is cookies or lunch.

Good enough, just wanted to be certain. Here's your latest instruction:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

I see you have P2P software installed on your machine (i.e. P2P). We are not here to pass judgement on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to a re-infection. It is certainly a contributor to your current situation. I will make recommendations below for removal, which you can choose to ignore where this P2P application is involved. It's your decision.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

P2P Networking
AltNet
FlashGet

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: My &Search Bar - {0494D0D9-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AltnetPointsManager] c:\program files\altnet\points manager\points manager.exe -s
O9 - Extra button: FlashGet - {D6E814A0-E0C5-11d4-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: &FlashGet - {D6E814A0-E0C5-11d4-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\MyWay\
c:\program files\altnet\
C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\

Reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file so we can make sure it's clean.

Make sure to update Windows and Internet Explorer at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Wellllll......there are some practice HJT logs here and an intense Boot Camp over at SpywareInfo forums. Let me ask for one of our Security Moderators to answer that question better than I.

Hi, DT,

Both spywareinfo.com and Tom Coyote Forums have training areas. They are private forums and you must request admittance.

Those are your best bets.
