Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Do not run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINNT\Cursors\ccmd.exe

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Viewpoint

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINNT\systb.dll (file missing)

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINNT\Cursors\ccmd.exe
C:\WINNT\sysupd.exe
C:\WINNT\msagent\svcsrv.exe
C:\WINNT\Cursors\ccmd.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\bkinst.exe

Run Index.dat Suite now and go to Tools->Settings. Then make sure to check the following: Cookies, History, Recent Documents, Swap File (if you have Windows 95/98), Temporary Internet Files and Temp Files. Click Save at the bottom. Then click on the Find button. Let it search. Then click on the second button on the top. This will generate a batch file. Click Next->Next->Next and it will tell you that after the next reboot/restart you the file should run by itself and startup and clean all those files.

Reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file so we can make sure it's clean.

Hmmmm......a re-occurring little nasty in there......

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):[b]

C:\WINNT\addins\regdns.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {55E301E5-BA44-4095-BB0B-14E0123CCF71} - C:\DOCUME~1\die1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sndger.dat
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*regdns] C:\WINNT\addins\regdns.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*regdns] C:\WINNT\addins\regdns.exe rerun

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Documents and Settings\die1\Local Settings\Temp\ <<<Entire contents of folder, not folder itself.
C:\WINNT\addins\regdns.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file so we can make sure it's clean.

Well I ran Shredder and Ad-Aware, then I restarted to safe mode... but I couldn't kill regdns... it would just auto-restart. I tried to do a real fast kill and delete, but that didn't work either... it's restarting too fast for that. I switched back to normal mode and did another log... bkinst is in there again. here's the log:

regdns is becoming a resource hog now too... I desperately need to get rid of this thing. It's continuously soaking up about 20% CPU all the time...

all the 4chan allowances are by me. It's for viewing purposes. I've managed to fix everything actually. I did a little disallow of new processes so I could delete regdns before it restarted, and I was thus able to completely kill it along with bkinit. So, problems solved. Gonna give it a couple days and then re-examine my log.

already taken care of. That's what CTSNKY had me try to do earlier. It was self-reproducing itself so I couldn't kill it though. Everytime I'd kill it, it would just pop up again. So I got around it by slowing down my clock cycles and queueing up events, so my machine would delete the exe before it could start running it again. In the end, everything's fixed.
