Problem with Spybot S&D 1.3?
I was reading another forum that said there might be a problem with Spybot.
In "advanced mode", in "Ignored Products" and "All products" that NO boxes should be checked. Many people were stating that they found 4 boxes checked: LSP.Newnet MySearch New.net SideStep So I checked mine. I had just downloaded and used the version (1.3)from a link I got from here. I used it in Default mode and NEVER went into advanced until now to look. I found the same four boxes checked and nothing else checked. Question: Should I UNCHECK these boxes? and why is it like that? Thanks for your respond

Greetings Don.
I unchecked those boxs so your safe to as well. I brought this to the attention of Security forum members and when I get an answer I'll post it here also. I think (not 100% sure) that Spybot has those checkmark by default...but I don't know why.

Each of those baddies have winsock entries involved, and Spybot does not want to fix them unless you have the additional tool(s) to fix that layer already downloaded and ready to go.
We techs can give you the necessary instructions, have you uncheck those, and do the two step fix. Does that answer the question? |

Thanks jg! Yes it did. I just updated my Spybot, there are updates for the files dated yesterday (2004-10-26) that ups the total to 23,385 items it scans for. That number is with it scanning for "Usage Tracking", which I have NOT checked to scan for. Should I scan for those? Without the "Usage tracking" scan it still scans for 20,788 items...still impressive.

I wouldn't recommend it. If you are still concerned, you can download Hijack (link in my sig) and we can have a look.
Like I said, a misstep could crash your internet connection, but good. |
