It has been a long time since I've done any maintenance. Things are quite slow and I've had a few strange things happening. I've done a virus scan and malware scans and nothing is coming up. Can you take a look at my log and let me know if I should do anything? Thanks, Monique Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 Scan saved at 12:17:30, on 2004-10-24 Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\cisvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\cidaemon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\QCDriver\LVCOMS.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\ctfmon.exe C:\Palm\HOTSYNC.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Monique\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://rd.companion.yahoo.com/slv/ycheck/as/*http:// R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://rd.companion.yahoo.com/slv/yc.../www.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://rd.companion.yahoo.com/slv/yc...om/search?p=%s R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,AutoConfigURL = http://192.168.0.1 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http://192.168.123.254 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1 O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\ycomp5_0_2_7.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: Web assistant - {9ECB9560-04F9-4bbc-943D-298DDF1699E1} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Hi Monique and welcome to TSF! Your log is clean, but I will share a few recommendations:
SpyKiller is a barebones spyware removal tool that provides little more than the most basic detection functionality. It does not provide detailed scan results and you're unable to conclusively determine its effectiveness. However, SpyKiller may be finding “false positives” in an effort to goad users into purchasing the product. To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Section and use the tools provided. I would also recommend removing WildTangent. This is an online gaming package that is installed by a number of third party applications and even OEMs, ISPs and AIM. The games aspect of this is really rather cool. The being installed without you asking for it isn't cool at all. They collect information about you and your usage. Make sure to update Windows and Internet Explorer at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Your XP is out of date and lacking many vital security patches.
