Turn off system restore by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box, and press "apply"

Alright, one more round

Same instructions as below/above pertaining to browsers

Open up HJT, then press config, then the "Misc Tools" button, then the "Process Manager" Button.

Highlight the following processes one at a time, and, one at a time, hit "Kill Process"

C:\WINDOWS\System32\vgfprg.exe

Then fix these entries.
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0000607D-D204-42C7-8E46-216055BF9918} - C:\WINDOWS\mxTarget.dll

Then delete the following files DO NOT DELETE c:\windows\system 32, or you will have a big mess on your hands

Then reboot and post a new log.

I actually don't use Internet Explorer, but Firefox. This is my parents' computer so I'm trying to fix it for them and Yahoo Messenger was uninstalled a long time ago, so that button doesn't work.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Support.com - Spyware from SupportSoft provided to manufacturers, such as Sony (Vaio Support Agent) and Toshiba (Virtual Tech), and ISPs, such as Comcast, Cox and Charter (Pipeline Support Agent), that allows them to offer on-line support. This part ensures that software is installed correctly. Regarded as spyware as it has the ability to retrieve user information.

Messenger Plus - spyware

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Support.com\ - only delete if you uninstalled it
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus\

Reboot into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log file so we can make sure it's clean.
