Bitdefender Mysterious Problem
Hi, I've noticed that my antivirus, Bitdefender 9 Professional Plus, is always shutting down randomly while my computer is on..That's pretty much all I have to say. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Have you ran scans for virus, spyware, etc?
Try running a scan at Panda Active Scan Then download, update and run AdAware SE Choose to check for updates and then run the scan and choose to fix whatever it finds. (Put checks in the boxes). AdAware tutorial Download, update and run Spybot Search & Destroy Update, scan, make sure anything in red is checked and choose fix problems Tutorial from Coyote site Get and run Ewido Security Suite Install ewido security suite. When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck.. *Install background guard *Install scan via context menu Launch Ewido, there should now be an icon on your desktop, double-click it. The program will now open to the main screen. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files: On the left hand side of the main screen click update. Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful") If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido: Ewido manual updates Once the updates are installed, do the following: Click on scanner. Click on Complete System Scan, the scan will now begin. While the scan is in progress you will be promted to clean files, click OK. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections", then choose clean and click OK. Empty the Recycle Bin and reboot. See how it works now, all the above should clean up most infections you may have. |

hey, i am having the same problem. it seems to be just a general fault with bitdefender. i have done plenty of research into this problem. i have even clean installed xp on a pc and just installed bitdefender and, although it worked correctly to start off with without shutting down by itself, it started doing it after a few days, and nuthing else was installed. i have noticed that bitdefender actually isn't shutting down completely. it is just bdmcon.exe. i am unsure what this actually controls but i know that, when bdmcon.exe is closed, the taskbar program of bitdefender is also closed. also i know that when bitdefender shutsdown by itself, when you go into windows security centre, it says bitdefender is running correctly on the anti virus and firewall section. my guess is that the bdcom.exe runs the task bar and possibly the automatic updates. i will get back to you on this if i find anything else out.
so, having tried bitdefender on a clean install of windows xp on another computer and on this one, we can safely say that programs like spywareblaster and spyware doctor do not affect bitdefender or atleat doesn't affect this problem. the technical support team at bitdefender told me those programs do affect it. they are still giving me help but so far they have only told me to uninstall those 2 programs. if bdmcon.exe does not affect the automatic updates then really, this problem should not matter at all unless you highly wish to have the taskbar program. but if it does affect the automatic updates then it is probably worth sorting out. like i said, i will get back to you when i have more. nath Last edited by nbtheone; 01-15-2006 at 05:55 AM. |
