What is Spyaxe?

And how do I get rid of it and keep it from coming back?

I am in the process of Adawaring and Spyboting and (eventually, as soon as I get through the pre HJT list) Hijacking my now malwared, pop-up laden PC. What a pain.

I have run Spybot search and destroy and Adaware each twice already. My pop ups have lessened considerably. But still, about every 15 minutes, an icon appears on my desktop: it is labeled "Spyaxe". I think its a link to a spyware removal program that the company wants me to buy. I have deleted the program at least five times from from "Add/Delete" Programs menu. But it just reappears on its own.

What is Spyaxe and how do I get rid of it for good?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

This sounds alot like WinFixer 2005, which MaximumPC (January 2006 issue, P. 20) reviewed. Winfixer is made by Winsoftware.com and won't fix anything unless you pay for it; also, the 'problem files' included alot of windows pinball sound clips on a clean XP install. This software is also "forced" on the user to download. If one person does it, it will be deemed profitable. If you see anyone trying to purchase anything like this, slap their hand, sit them in a corner, and put a dunce cap on their head and maybe then people will wise up and not purchase software because it won't leave them alone. What would you do if a salesman kept coming to your door to sell you a $500 vacuum cleaner, and kept knocking on your door every 5 minutes asking again as if you didn't say no the first time? I'd kick his ***, not buy it. Or, I'd try to sell him something every time he came to my door, maybe he'd get the hint. "Here, want to buy my coffee cup? It's distinctive, interior permanently brown with coffee for flavor enhancement, with convenient carrying handle and aged look, for the ultimate vintage drinking experience. Only $39.99 conveniently billed to your Mastercard/Visa." In other words, start fighting back!
