College Being Attacked By Virus

I'm not sure where i should be posting this, but I hope this was the best place to do so.

There's this thing going around AIM that makes your screen name put up an away message every 5 mins saying "LOL LOOK" with a link to some download that ends with "pictures.pif"

I serarched my friends computer for the file and all sorts of things but I couldn't find anything. There's also no saved away message saying that, so I couldn't delete the message anyway.

I do not have this on my computer, but I know people that do and it is quickly spreading around instant messanger.

What should be done?

Tell them to scan their systems with an updated antivirus, and don't click on files with .pif extensions.
