security measures for new laptop

Hello,

I recently purchased IBM T42 thinkpad with window XP on it. Can someone list all the measures (downloads, installations etc) I should take to secure this laptop? I would appreciate step-by-step response as I am non-technical person.

hi help seeker,

check out www.majorgeeks.com its a good site where you can download many programs from spyware utilitie, diagnostics utilities, and even optimization utilities.

hmmm.....if you dont have any spware utilities installed on your laptop, i recommend downloading and installing spybot, adware SE, and spyblaster.

in addition, you want a good anti-virus and a really good anti-virus program to download is AVG. you can download all these programs from majorgeeks.

good optimization utilities to have include "ccleaner" and "diskeeper defragging utility". oh yeah a firewall to help protect you from intruders, "zonealarm" is good. again you can download all of these at maorgeeks. good luck
