Aurora and other nasties
I am wondering, besides the occasionally available uninstaller online for some of these spyware whales, do you suggest any type of method for removing permeating spyware types; besides reformatting?

Reformatting should be your last option. There are plenty of volunteers who would be more than happy to assist someone. The best thing to do is to post a Hijack This log.
