wired network

Hi I got a quick question, right now I have cable internet going to my router. from the router I have the cables going to 2 computers 1 for me and one for my roomate. One of our neighbors said that he was using our internet wirelessly, my question is can you tap into a router if both of our computers our wired in hard-wired. if so what can you do to stop it. thank you

You may both be connected to the router with wires but if trhe router sends wireless signals then anyone with a wireless card can use the signal. I actually have the same issue. I have the router connected to a desktop (wired) and i use the net wirelessly on my laptop but I can't figure out how to protect the wireless signal. Everytime I create a password for the network it simply creatyes a new network connection with a password leaving the original one wide open. I can't figure out where to go to set up a passwsord for the existing network.

There's many things your can do to protect your wireless entry points. My understanding is you would have to be using a wireless network for your neighbor to be able to tap in unless he's somehow wired to your network. A simple firewall that supports VPN connectivity would require any remote user to log in...hence blocking any unauthorized useage.
