I can tell from the sticky thread above that Norton isn't the security flavour of the month
However I have an issue with Norton Internet Security 2005. And I'm hoping its relatively simple. I'm new to the big, new world of networking (in my case setting up a home network) and have been thwarted in my attempts at PING'ing and getting incoming FTP traffic to work (I run an FTP server on my PC). All suggestions point to the fault lying with NIS 2005. Rather than uninstall it all is there a way to work around - is there something in NIS that I can change to allow the FTP/PING traffic from my router? David. |

Open NIS. I do not have access to my NIS-loaded computer right now, so I cannot give you detailed instructions on how to access the following. But you should be able to get there with the help of your manual.
Go to the place where all of your port rules are defined. You want to check if there are any rules defined for ports 20 (FTP Data traffic) or port 21 (FTP Control traffic). There is a good list of many of the reserved ports at http://webopedia.internet.com/quick_ref/portnumbers.asp If you find a rule for one of those ports, Disable it. Then check for ping again. If it still does not work, then be sure to reenable those rules. If this does not work, report back here and we will try something else.
