Platinum

Hi Everyone

My husband was lent a DVD and he used it on one of my computers. Unfortunately this DVD is obviously a dodgy one and it has added something to my computer and altered settings on it. Now when I turn the computer on a screen comes up with graphics and PLATINUM written across it. Does anyone have any idea what this might be or how to remove it? It altered the date and time settings on my computer - I am not sure if it altered anything else. How would I find out the extent of the damage done?

The computer is a windows XP one.

Any help would be very gratefully recieved but please bare in mind that I am only mildly computer literate.

Many thanks
Kerry

Re: Platinum

Hi and welcome to TSF

We are going to need more information, maybe a rogue program such as Registry Defender Platinum.

Please ask your husband what the DVD was, what it was supposed to do.

Re: Platinum

Many thanks for getting back to me.

It was actually a film. We don't have a TV so we watch films on the computer. The person who lent the DVD to my husband travels abroad a lot of the time and I am assuming that he has bought this DVD abroad as the writing on the actual DVD is in a foreign language that I don't recognize. The external packaging on the DVD looked fine and gave my husband no reason to think it was anything other than a normal DVD.

The screen that comes up when I first start the computer has all silver swirls across it and the PLATINUM name emblazened cross ways over the screen.

Re: Platinum

It may not really be "Malware", but you still want it gone.

Have you check your control panel>add/remove programs? If so, can you remove it from there?

Also you could try a system restore back to a time before you viewed the movie.

I am thinking maybe some type of media player it installed.

Re: Platinum

I have checked the add/remove section and there is nothing there. Whatever it is tries to connect to the internet which makes me suspicious of its intent. I have decided that it is beyond my capabilites to fix it and will be passing across to a professional to fix.

Many thanks for your help it has been much appreciated.

All the best
Kerry
