spybot causes IE7 to hang up

I have found that when spybot is enabled at startup that when I access Internet Explorer 7.0 it will become hung. I determined this by disabling all add-ons through IE7 tools/Programs/Manage Addons and then reenabling. If spybot is disabled, then accessing IE7 doesn't hangup. I found on the internet that using "immunization" may cause this. When I removed immunization it may be slower but it doesn't hangup. My question is what does immunization do and how can I maintain the protection it would provide?

"Immunization" adds some entries to the system Registry which blocks cookies from some sites, places certain sites in the restricted zone and blocks the download/execution of selected ActiveX scripts.

You could try SpywareBlaster instead and see if that works better for you.

SpywareBlaster helps to:

In addition to amateur's excellent advice, perhaps try an alternate browser, such as Firefox or Opera - one that does not require ActiveX. I use Spybot and the immunisation still protects Firefox.
