How does AVG Linkscanner (standalone) work?

Hi everyone,
Can you explain how AVG Linkscanner (standalone version) works? I'm confused with the "Linkscanner Quick Scan" in the sub-section of AVG Linkscanner component. When I enter in a site to be scanned by AVG, does AVG itself access the site and scan it? Or does it use in-cloud? The part that confuses me the most is when I entered in the malicious site micro./xxxcounter/i.php into AVG Linkscanner Quick Scan and press the scan address button, Avast's web shield detects the malicious file in one of avg's process, I didn't even open the browser. So does AVG use in-cloud, visit the website itself, use a database of virus signatures, or what? Another question is, if I type in a malicious site into AVG Linkscanner Quick Scan and no threat is detected, but in actuality there is one, while I become infected?

Re: How does AVG Linkscanner (standalone) work?

Also, is it ok to use McAfee Siteadvisor and AVG Linkscanner together? Besides the fact that the icons overlap, are there any conflicts and issues between the two running together? If both are usable, then can I use WOT, Linkscanner, Mcafee SiteAdvisor, and Norton SafeWeb all together even though it all causes considerable lag?

I can't answer your questions, since I don't use them myself, I use another program (paid one)

But, please in future do not post a link that you know will create problems for users. The url you posted was AWF/Trojan downloader. Doing so would infect people that were not adequately protected.

Are all the answers in this tech support forum supposed to be made by moderators?

Nope, in this section of the forum, anyone with a reasoned answer can reply.

Since you're asking AVG specific questions, you might wish to post them at the AVG support forum.

This is a general security section. I don't use any AVG apps either.
