IP Changer/blocker and security

Hi Guys/Ladies,
I'm definately seeing an increase in the 'resend your details to the bank' crude phishing mail shots lately and although I do all of the generally advised security stuff like never opening a pop up and deleting the obvious and unknown mail, a friend mentioned that in addition to AV-Firewall-Malware checkers IP blocking software can help avoid hacking attacks. What's the groups feeling on this and if it is an added protection can anyone recommend software

thanks
all

Re: IP Changer/blocker and security

Hi and welcome to TSF

I don't know which email you are using. Some will offer you a way to blocksites, some let you mark it as spam and remember it, stop all traffic from that site.

Please remember that having an IP address means really nothing. An IP is about as much use as a zip code or area code, just a general idea where you are. It will not tell them that you live 1221 Smith St, Anywhere, USA.

Re: IP Changer/blocker and security

Hey thanks for the reply. I think my question was misleading to some extent. I'm trying to find out about software to prevent my ip being shown when i surf the web. apologies for the misunderstanding.

Re: IP Changer/blocker and security

Hi:

Generally when some asks this kind question, I wonder what they are doing.
Is it something they should not be doing?

Just why do you want your IP blocked? PC's want to know who they are talking to.

Re: IP Changer/blocker and security

Hi Basementgeek,
Absolutely not for any wrong reasons, I'm not an expert on pc things and its simply as I said my source mentioned that blocking your IP can prevent hacking attacks. Like most individuals I have personal data on my home pc and just trying to stay one step ahead of the game.
My login name should give a broad idea of what I do for a living.
I'd theorise if anyone was seeking this info for a sinister reason they wouldn't ask on a public arena like this, by the very nature of such individuals they conduct themselves in a covert and hidden manner.
Anyway thanks for replying and I do appreciate you're just being careful and It's no big deal really just the unknowing asking what's probably a stupid question anyway.

It's nice to see a site that helps people without asking a fee, I'm sure I'll have need of this again when I try to move from Vista (URghh) to Windows7 in a years time.

Cheers

Re: IP Changer/blocker and security

Hi:

You would be surprised what all is asked here. Yes, we get request to do things that are considered illegal, at least in the USA, where we are based.

I assure you no one can hack into your PC with nothing more that an IP. I know where you are, the city were your live, as I have access to your IP.
But that tells nothing other than that. An IP tells only the Provider and the general area that they serve.

Now if you think you are infected we will try to help you.
