Re: about avira AV
Hi:
I have used both, but I like AVG, many people will disagree with me. What are the pros and cons of using a A/V? Pretty much is if you love wiping your hard drive and a complete re install of ALL your programs, inculding the operating system, go with an A/V and a Firewall. Just my 2¢ is all. BG |

Re: about avira AV
raident30,
I downloaded Avira on my sons new laptop, which has Vista OS, and it was a very simple download. Just remember to upgrade after the install. As with most AV's it just sits there and does its thing. We've had no problems with it at all. It will flash up a prompt asking if you want to upgrade to the paid version every time it updates its database however, it's just a simple click of the mouse to say no thanks. It's no big deal, especially for such a good AV. I've never used AVG but according to some reviews I've read it can be heavier on resources than others. I've never found Avira to be a problem with regard to resources but I guess that depends on the individual machine. As for pro's and con's of using an AV, I don't suppose it matters too much which one you use, as long as you use one. An AV is a must have if you are browsing the web. As Basementgeek suggests, if you are using a free AV, you will probably want to get yourself a firewall too. There are very good free ones available. For more info see the PC Safety and Security sticky at the top of this page. This will suggest a few things you could use to make your machine much safer. Most are very easy to download and install and use very little resource, in some cases none. Hope this helps. Cheers. Rob. |

Re: about avira AV
After using AVG, Avira AV and Avast!, I prefer Avira AV over them all.
For gaming, definently go with Avira AV! For the best try NOD32, but it's pay. If you wanna get the most out of gaming try running IObit's Game Booster. I found it helps a lot. To be the safest, if possible, disconnect and then run Game Booster. http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html Hope I helped. |
