[SOLVED] I think I may be compromised
I have started to go thru TSF security suggestions and I started with Security Risks from unpatched media players...Are you at Risk?
So as I was looking for the Java applet in my control panel I find I do not have one, even when I search for it. Does any tech on here know why this is and what it means? I am running Vista Home Premium SP2 (64bit) on a Toshiba Satellite L-305 with IE8. All windows updates are current. I am using AVG Internet Security 8.5 paid current update this morning, Windows Defender, and Spybot S&D for scanning at least twice a week usually more. I just finished a scan with S&D and nothing was found. AVG and Defender scan once a day minimum and have found nothing since I have had this computer, about two months. I am worried I may be compromised. What to do? |

Re: I think I may be compromised
Hi -
Do you have Sun Java installed? The Java Control Panel applet will only be viewable using the Classic view of your Control Panel. You can access the Java Control Panel by entering javacpl.cpl in the Vista search box, or using the Run box (Windows key + R)

Ummm... DOH? I just read if you think you are infected. Sorry to bother anyone here I'll follow those instructions and go to the Virus/Trojan removal forum.
Chris47 Thanks Teton I have classic veiw on. I'm going to do the whole before you post set of scans in Virus Trojan Removal that way I'll be sure to catch anything I might have. Thank You Last edited by chris47; 07-17-2009 at 09:55 AM. |

Re: I think I may be compromised
64bit OS are quite different animals. Harder to infect, and most of our tools don't work on that platform. Usually, a good 64bit AntiVirus and one good 64bit antimalware application is enough to keep 64bit machines clean.
Be sure you read this http://java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml

Re: I think I may be compromised
Thanks again Tetonbob
I have 64bit and installed Java. The secunius scan didn't work as far as I can tell. It tried 50 different java scripts gave me a message that it Java may not be installed and when I clicked ok it scanned for several minutes with no result. so I went to the Virus page and did the dds and GMER scans and posted over in virus trojan removal. I'm not going to continue this thread since I do not want to appear to be double posting the same thing. I'm going to mark it solved. Thank You very much.
