Norton AntiVirus 2005 wont install

I have been trying to install Norton AntiVirus 2005 since the middle of January.
After over 10 replies from Symantec tech support, sometimes waiting days for a response, I still cannot install the program. All I get when I click on "Install Norton AntiVirus 2005" is a flickering hourglass and then it does nothing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar problem

Suggest you go back to Symantec web-site. Gear down to do some serious searching, and find the NAV2005 removal tool.

This sounds like a failed NAV2005 installation, the remnants of which prevent successive attempts at installing.

You should also think about why it failed the first time. HD errors or what not. I say this because you shouldn't be surprized that it fails to install after you remove the previous installations; there maybe another problem underlying.

I had a previous version from college that was a corporate edition. Tech support has run me through cleaning out all remnants including cleaning out the registry, files and folders etc. The only traces that I can find now are in the start menu at mscongig and there are several other deleted programs there too, although they are no longer installed. Do you know how to clean out the start menu of old deleted programs?
Thanks

NAV2005 wont install

The propgram never even started to install. When I click on "install Norton AntiVirus" the hourglass flickers and then does nothing. So there are no components to uninstall.
