Is this enough to protect my computer?

AVG anti-virus (full version)
Spyware Blaster
Malwarebytes anti-malware

Is that enough and are there any better alternatives for each?

That should be good. However, if you want to see the other programs available have a look here. PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need?

Re: Is this enough to protect my computer?

Hi -

AVG - This is good, but NOD32 is better.
Spyware Blaster - Not needed since you already have the best spyware tools below.
Malwarebytes anti-malware - Read above, lol.

Re: Is this enough to protect my computer?

Hi Footynutdyl,

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to such things but I've read many posts on this forum, and have asked similar questions, and I would recommend the following, which are mentioned in the pc safety and security sticky :-

a good AV - I imagine they're very similar but choose one of the free ones (Avira, AVG etc.) or buy one such as Kaspersky or NOD32

SpywareBlaster - not real time but sits in the registry and tries to block anything untoward

Real time anti-spyware - From what I understand the purchased version of Malwarebytes is pretty good and offers real-time protection, however the free version is not real-time, but on-demand only.

Host File - MVPS is commonly recommended but again, from a purely amateur point of view, perhaps they're all quite similar

Firewall - if you don't purchase an all-in security suite, try a free firewall such as Comodo

Browser Adviser - WOT or McAfee Site Advisor gives you an obvious indication of good or bad websites from any search engine

And, of course, keeping not only your Windows software up to date with the automatic updates, but using something like Secunia to confirm the readiness of most apps on your pc makes sense.

Hope this helps, but remember I'm purely amateur when it comes to such things and I'm sure somebody will be along soon to either confirm or deny what I've stated.

Good luck.

Rob.

Re: Is this enough to protect my computer?

Hi -

I wonder if there's any good Browser Advisers *extensions* for Firefox?

Re: Is this enough to protect my computer?

Undocked, both advisors that RobinHamilton mentioned -- WOT and SiteAdvisor -- are available as Firefox plugins. In fact I believe Web of Trust is currently ONLY on Firefox.

Re: Is this enough to protect my computer?

Hey, it really is a matter of opinion when choosing the right applications to protect your PC. I did write a detailed blog on which applications that I use that never fails me. I am a "PCTools" type of a guy heheheh. Even though AVG is a great choice as well, *high five* on your end sir.
