Virus problems

Hi,

my computer performance had begun to slow down very quickly over the last few days. On running McAfee AntiVirus found five trojan viruses, 3 of which it removed, one it quarantined and one which it could not remove. Since then I have not been able to do anything more with the computer to fix the problem as when I turn it on it does not respond. This is still the case when I restart the computer from last known good configuration and in safe mode, or safe mode with networking.

I would be grateful for any assisstance.

Thanks

Re: Virus problems

You should probably head to the malware removal forum and follow the instructions in the sticky thread there.

Re: Virus problems

Thanks, but unfortunately as I said in the post, my computer does not repond when I turn it on at all, it simply brings me to my desktop, but no icons ever appear, so I cannot follow the steps outlined in the read before posting thread, or am unable to produce any logs to show problem.

Re: Virus problems

You can mention that in your thread there--if you're unable to run one or both of the scanners they will give you further instructions. I'm not sure how they'd direct you from that point, but it's worth a try anyways.

Re: Virus problems

@osullivanap -

We'd be limited in what we could do from here without you being able to run any tools to produce analysis logs.

You say you get to a blank desktop. That's a bit different from "when I turn it on it does not respond".

Can you open Task Manager? ctrl + alt + del

If so, you can run applications from there. If you can open Task Manager, can you run explorer? From Task Manager, File > New Task (Run) > type explorer >press Enter

If explorer will not load, what exact error message, if any?

Does Safe Mode with Command Prompt load for you?

Do you have a USB stick drive?
