Network error

Can someone help me? I'm using AVG 8.5 and have been for a long time. My OS is XP. Recently, when I try to view certain web pages, I get this error:

"Network Error (dns_unresolved-hostname), Your requested host prosecure.microsoft.com could not be resolved by DNS. For assistance, contact your network support team"

I've contacted my internet provider and went over everything with them. Everything is as it should and it only happens for some web pages. They seem to think AVG is detecting possible viruses/threats and is keeping the sites from loading. I think this is correct but can't figure out how to stop this if it's true. I emptied my virus vault and the first time I tried to go to a webpage, it worked. The second time I tried I got the error again. Also, I don't know if it's related but today I noticed and AVG toolbar at the top of my screen and I know I didn't request that.

If anyone could give me some ideas I would appreciate it.

Re: Network error

I am using AVG 8.5 paid and have no such problem with any websites. What websites you are visiting. Anyway, AVG toolbar is installed on an optional basis, you can choose whether to install or not to install it during the installation

Re: Network error

Two of the websites I can't access:

http://newsandsentinel.com/.........just my local newspaper and
http://gonintendo.com/....a gaming website.

The page will start loading and then the screen will go white and I'll get that error. Most other websites do the same thing. I really think AVG is stopping the page from loading but I don't know how to correct it. Also, I probably should add, I think I'm using AVG 8.5. That's the icon on my computer but I have not paid for anything.

Re: Network error

Not sure if any professionals here try to answer all of these but if they do, don't worry about this problem, was able to figure it out through another website. I had to change one of my settings.

Hello -

While we try to answer as many questions as we can, we don't always get to all of them.

For others who may come upon this thread with similar issues, perhaps you'd share with us your solution. What settings did you change?
