[SOLVED] [moved from gaming]Audio devices becoming invisible to computer
i am having a problem where when i run a game and then exit it, all my audio devices seem to become invisible to the computer, including those built in to it. now, approx 2 days ago, i had to reload my windows side because of a virus. this virus had removed most of my activeX and visual basic, and did something to my audio where the computer could no longer detect ANY audio devices. i appear to still be having that problem with the audio, even though i reloaded the OS and all the mac drivers from the CD. this problem seems to usually occur when i run far cry 2 and then exit. any suggestions?

Re: Audio devices becoming invisible to computer
hello and welcome to TSF
when you exit the game and there are no sounds, try this go to control panel -> Device manager and see if the windows is detecting any sound card drivers, if not press "F5" on your keyboard to refresh the device manager and check again also when you reinstalled Windows, did you Format your PC ? if not you have to do Format, cause a Virus effects won't go away just by reinstalling windows, also make sure to get a good Anti-Virus software like: Avast 4.8 (free) Nod32 (not free) Avira AV (free) AVG (free) my best choice is Avast and I'm using it for the last 4 years and my PC is well protected

Re: Audio devices becoming invisible to computer
I recommend AVG, my whole house has been using it for 6 years and it protects from everything.
Try updating your drivers for those devices. Or try reinstalling them.

Re: Audio devices becoming invisible to computer
REMOVE SPYWARE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY! It is a nasty trojan and does NOTHING for your system.

Re: Audio devices becoming invisible to computer
Malware bytes and Spybot are good ones but I would agree with 5niper, remove Spyware doctor right away using Revo uninstaller

Re: Audio devices becoming invisible to computer
It's well known just because it's advertised EVERYWHERE.
Most popular anti-virus programs can pick it up, Malwarebytes is for spyware and things like that so it would not detect it. You may not detect anything wrong with your computer but it can cause many problems, like the one you are experienceing.

Re: Audio devices becoming invisible to computer
You stated here you have a Windows Partition. If you have multiple Partitions be sure to scan each section as Viruses can hide almost everywhere, including USB Flash drives.

hmmm...now the game brings up the updater, shows the splash screen, then says my video card drivers are too old....gonna try redownloading the drivers....
and i only have one windows partition. scanned my mem sticks too and didnt find anything. probably because i hadnt even plugged them in for like a month before the virus. sound problems gone. i guess spyware doctor was the problem. thanks for the help. Last edited by dai; 06-27-2009 at 08:35 AM. |
